Hair is the frame for the face. Choose the cut by face shape, the length by your lifestyle, and the care routine by your hair type. Hair grows about 1.25 cm (half an inch) a month, so plan a cut you can keep for 2 to 3 months.

Routine

  • Oil weekly: warm coconut, almond or castor oil, massage for 5 minutes, leave 30 to 60 minutes, then shampoo.
  • Shampoo the scalp, condition the lengths, and finish with a cool rinse for shine.
  • Use a mask every 2 weeks: curd and honey, amla or hibiscus, or a store-bought protein mask.
  • Dry with a soft cotton T-shirt or microfibre towel; do not rub.
  • Trim every 8 to 10 weeks, every 6 weeks for short cuts and bobs.

Easy updos

  • Top knot: gather at the crown, twist and wrap with a scrunchie. Takes 1 minute.
  • French braid: three sections, add hair from the sides as you cross. Takes 5 minutes.
  • Low bun: low ponytail, twist, wrap and pin. Good with sarees and formal wear.
  • Half-up: take the top section, tie it back and leave the rest down.
Stylist note: Bring two photos to the salon: one you like and one you do not. It prevents most misunderstandings.

Routine

  • Wash 2 to 3 times a week with a gentle shampoo; daily washing dries the scalp.
  • Dandruff: use a shampoo with ketoconazole or zinc pyrithione twice a week.
  • Trim fades every 3 to 4 weeks, longer cuts every 6.
  • Apply product to damp hair for control, dry hair for texture.

Good grooming is consistent and simple. Morning and night routines, the right ingredients for your skin type, and regular upkeep matter more than a long shelf of products.

Daily skin routine

  • Morning: cleanser, moisturiser, sunscreen SPF 30 to 50.

Men

For men, makeup is about even skin and healthy brows. The aim is to look rested, not made-up.

Product guide

ConcealerDark circles, spotsExact match to skin; dab, do not rub
Brow gelNeatens browsClear or matching colour
Lip balm with SPFPrevents chappingTinted or clear
Translucent powderReduces shine on forehead and noseMatte

Steps

  • Moisturise and apply SPF.
  • Dab a small amount of tint on the centre of the face and blend outward with fingers.
  • Conceal under the eyes and on any spots.
  • Brush brows upward with a gel; trim stray hairs only.
  • Apply balm to lips.
  • Set with a light dusting of powder on the forehead and nose.

For photos and events

  • Use a slightly fuller base, powder, and a touch of bronzer on the cheekbones.
  • Check in daylight; makeup that looks right in a bathroom may look heavy outdoors.
  • Remove at night with a cleanser to prevent clogged pores.

Nails are a small finishing touch that people notice. Choose the shape and length for your hands and lifestyle, and keep the routine simple and consistent.

Nail health

  • Apply cuticle oil daily and hand cream at night.

  • Take a break from gel or acrylic for a week every 2 to 3 months.
  • A biotin-rich diet (eggs, nuts) supports growth; nails grow about 3 mm a month.

Pedicure

  • Cut toenails straight across to prevent ingrowth.
  • Soak 10 minutes, use a pumice stone on heels, apply foot cream.
  • Change polish every 2 to 3 weeks.

  • Sleeve: shows half an inch of shirt cuff.
  • Trouser break: slight or none.

Other one-piece looks

  • Boiler suit: choose a straight leg and a belt.
  • Matching co-ord set: shirt and trousers in the same fabric, the easiest one-piece look.

Great fit has nothing to do with size. These charts and rules help you find clothes that fit your measurements, and the tailoring steps that make off-the-rack look made-to-measure.

5X28142 cm / 56 in124 cm / 49 in150 cm / 59 in

Always use the brand's chart; plus-size grading varies more than standard sizing.

Fit rules

  • Fit the widest point first (bust, hips or shoulders), then tailor the waist.
  • Choose fabrics with drape (crepe, jersey, viscose) rather than stiff cotton.
  • Pick a well-fitted bra: 80 percent of how a top sits depends on it.
  • Wear one structured piece (blazer, belted coat) to add shape.

Cuts and what they do

CutEffect
Wrap dressDefines the waist, adjustable
A-lineSkims the hips
High-rise bottomsSmooth the waist, show the line
Wide-leg trousersBalanced silhouette
V-neckLengthens the neckline

Indian wear

  • Sarees: use fewer pleats (4 to 5) in a lighter fabric and fit the blouse with a firm lining.
  • Kurtas: A-line or straight to the knee, with side slits for movement.
  • Lehengas: choose a flared skirt with a fitted blouse and a long dupatta.
Stylist note: Have trousers and skirts hemmed and taken in at the waist; it is the most affordable way to a perfect fit.

  • Pick longer shirt lengths (tall cuts) so the hem stays tucked.
  • Dark, solid colours and vertical lines give clean lines.
  • Choose straight or tapered trousers at the ankle.

Match socks to the trouser colour, not the shoe.

Care

  • Use cedar shoe trees to keep shape.
  • Condition leather monthly and polish every few wears.
  • Match belt and shoe in tone, not shade.
  • Rotate pairs so each rests a day.

Sizes vary by brand but your measurements do not. Measure once, keep the numbers and compare them with each brand's chart. Use a soft tape, measure over thin clothing, and keep it snug but not tight.

Patterns and texture

  • One pattern per outfit; if you mix two, vary the scale.
  • Mix smooth and textured: silk with wool, cotton with linen.
  • Stripes: vertical lengthens, horizontal widens.

Saree and silk care

  • Dry clean silk sarees once or twice a year.
  • Refold every 3 months along different lines to prevent cuts at the folds.
  • Store in muslin or cotton, never plastic.
  • Air out for a few hours after each wear.

Storage

  • Hang blouses and dresses on padded hangers.
  • Fold knitwear; hanging stretches it.
  • Keep cedar blocks or neem leaves in wardrobes.

Men

Shirts and trousers

  • Wash shirts in cold or 30 C with similar colours; hang to dry.
  • Iron collars and cuffs first, then the body.
  • Use a steamer between washes for suits and kurtas.

Suits and wool

  • Dry clean a suit only 2 to 3 times a year; brush it after each wear.
  • Hang on a wide-shouldered hanger and rest it a day between wears.
  • Store woollens with cedar, folded, in breathable bags.

Denim

  • Wash every 5 to 10 wears, inside out, in cold water.
  • Air dry to stop shrinking and fading.

Kurtas

  • Wash embroidered kurtas by hand in cold water.
  • Starch cotton kurtas lightly for a crisp finish.

Shoes

  • Wipe leather after wear, use shoe trees and rotate pairs.
  • Wash white sneakers with a soft brush and mild soap.
